May Member Spotlight–Aaron!

1. Name

Aaron Baldwin

2. How long have you been doing CrossFit (and at TBL)? What class(es) do you normally attend?

I started crossfit at TBL in December of 2017. I attend the 7pm classes Monday thru Thursday.

3. What’s your why? Why did you start? Why do you stay?

I have been pursuing a career in law enforcement and the physical fitness tests were always a struggle for me. I started crossfit after not getting the results I wanted at a regular gym. Part from my own laziness and part not knowing what I was doing. What made me stay is mostly the community of coaches and other members. Everyone is there to help and push you through the toughest workouts. When I was still new I had people do extra work with me so I wouldn’t be finishing alone. It’s a great feeling finishing those workouts with everyone behind you.

4. What does a typical day look like for you? In and outside of the gym!

My typical day starts when I get to work at 7am. I work in the construction field so I’m up on my feet and active all day long, in all sorts of weather. I do a variety of work so I can be crawling in a attic in July or working in the rain. My work day typically ends around 4-4:30. I get home and rest for a bit before I head to crossfit for 7pm.

5. What do you enjoy most about Silk City Fit? Favorite/least favorite movement?

One of my favorite things about TBL is when anyone hits a PR, the whole gym gets just of pumped up as whoever hit a PR. My favorite movement is deadlifts. Thrusters are definitely my least favorite.

6. After a hard workout, what is your favorite meal?

After a hard workout, a Fitaid comes first. I’ll have a protein shake and some roasted chicken and potatoes. It’s a favorite meal after a workout or not.

7. What is one goal you are currently working on?

One goal I am currently working on is stringing my muscle ups together instead of singles.

8. What is one tip you would give to incoming/new members?

One tip I would give new members is don’t give up on yourself if you’re struggling in the beginning. I honestly almost did after about 5/6 months. It was Coach Steve that told me sometimes the hardest part is walking in the door. That just stuck with me and kept me coming in even when I didn’t want to. Now I’m addicted to crossfit and can’t stay out. So as long as you give every workout everything you have and don’t quit on yourself, no one here will quit on you. Keep coming and you’ll get to where you want to be.

9. What accomplishment are you most proud of (inside and outside of the gym)?

My proudest accomplishments inside the gym would have to be both conquering double unders and getting my first muscle up. Outside the gym would have to be dropping close to 50lbs in less than a year. Also setting new personal bests for the CHIP Test (police physical fitness) everytime I take it. Those 4 things stick out the most.
