1. Name:
Douglas and Jeanine Allin
2. How long have you been doing CrossFit (and at TBL)? What class(es) do you normally attend?
Jeanine: 6 years (Always @ TBL) in August Doug just over a year.
Mostly 9 am and 12 pm but we can be seen at the odd 4:45 pm.
3. What’s your why? Why did you start? Why do you stay?
Jeanine: I had been training in martial arts for about 8 years and it wasn’t holding my interest anymore. A friend and I checked out TBL and I’ve never looked back. It’s important for my work to be in the best condition possible.
Doug:I was maintaining an unhealthy lifestyle and needed to do something drastic to lose weight and return to the path of fitness. Jeanine urged me to try CF and touted the supportive community at CF TBL so I agreed to try it. I found everything she’d said to be true and I keep coming back for the healthy feeling, great coaching, and encouraging company of the folks here.
4. What does a typical day look like for you? In and outside of the gym!
Jeanine: inside the gym I’m always trying to work the weaknesses I have and put everything into the daily WOD. Outside: most days find me at BPD where I work as a police officer. When I can I’m spending time with my family and friends. Especially my kids when I can see them.
Doug: For my gym time I try to arrive early enough to knock out three or four thousand clicks on the rower towards the mileage challenge and to warm up for the beat -down to come. Then I recover with breakfast with Jeanine, sometimes followed by rushing off to work, or by hiking two or three miles through the woods with our dogs to exercise them and rack up more miles. Because of my odd work schedule there are no “typical“ days…I get home at midnight or four am, depending. Off-duty days I try to work around the house and yard and get out to shoot, hunt, or fish, defending on the weather and season. I also play the drums in two cover bands on weekends here and there. On a really good day/night, Jeanine and I have the same days off together and we will have dinner out somewhere nice.
5. What do you enjoy most about Silk City Fit? Favorite/least favorite movement?
Jeanine: I love me some power cleans. Let’s be honest we all know it’s burpees and will forever be burpees.
Doug: Deadlift and back squat are favorites. I don’t like burpees in any of their evil forms.
6. After a hard workout, what is your favorite meal?
For both us anything in the Mexican food arena. But this is a special occasion.
7. What is one goal you are currently working on?
Doug: Double unders
Jeanine: Toes to bar
8. What is one tip you would give to incoming/new members?
Jeanine: this is truly the best community/coaching anyone could ask for. Just keep coming in. It will all come together. And guess what? We are just as sore as you are!
Doug: believe in the coaches and the techniques they’re teaching! They know what they’re doing! Draw energy from the community when the work out gets tough.
9. What accomplishment are you most proud of (inside and outside of the gym)?
Jeanine: all day every day pull-ups! It was a struggle and took a long time but with the help of our awesome coaches I got it.
Outside: definitely being a mom. I love watching my children achieve their goals and happiness.
Doug: being able to face difficult workouts even on days I don’t want to. Transitioning from one movement to the next.
Outside: having found more peace of mind and a better feeling in my own skin as a result of what happens at TBL.
