Our CrossFit journey has taken on a life of its own. Never would we have thought that the hardest workout we had ever experienced would bring the best out of the two of us.  We have been CrossFitting since 2018 and it has been life changing. This has transformed our lives in so many ways. Not only are we stronger physically and mentally, but I will suggest to you that we have a will that will not give up! As athletes, we have been taught to perform to the highest level. We have been met with many challenges such as rope climbs, handstand pushups and thanks to the coaches and their belief and instruction, we have been able to achieve our goals. When I was eight years old, I was diagnosed with Rheumatic Fever and the doctors at Mass General Hospital discovered that there was damage to the mitral valve in my heart. At the time, they didn’t know too much about the condition and as a result, I was given a laundry list of things that I “couldn’t do.” Three things from that list that always stuck out in my mind were: 1) I couldn’t play sports, 2) I couldn’t run long distances, and 3) I couldn’t lift weights. If there is one thing people should know about me, it’s that I DO NOT like being told what I can and cannot do. 1. Name: Johnny Martin 2. How long have you been doing CrossFit (and at TBL)? What class(es) do you normally attend? I’ve been doing CrossFit for around 3 years, and I’ve been at TBL since November. During the school year (I’m a teacher), my hours were really random, but during the summer, I was here every morning at 6! Starting on Wednesday, I’ll be here every morning before the sun rises. 3. What’s your why? Why did you start? Why do you stay? I have tried everything under the sun after my time in organized sports ended, and this has been the only thing that keeps me coming back every time. Mostly 9 am and 12 pm but we can be seen at the odd 4:45 pm. 3. What’s your why? Why did you start? Why do you stay? Jeanine: I had been training in martial arts for about 8 years and it wasn’t holding my interest anymore. A friend and I checked out TBL and I’ve never looked back.
